Dr. Hodan Said Isse

Dr. Hodan holds a PhD in economics from George Mason University in Virginia, as well as two master’s degrees – in economics and international development – from Ohio University. She also holds a certificate in business management from Georgetown University. Dr. Hodan is a certified Islamic Finance expert and holds a certification in Islamic insurance from AIMS. She served as a lead economist for the State of Virginia for five years and as an assistant Emeritus professor at the University of Buffalo School of Management.

Dr. Hodan is a co-founder and board member of the United States-based Somali Mental Health Foundation, as well as the founder and president of H.E.A.L., a non-profit organization based in Buffalo, New York. She played a key role in establishing the New York International Bazaar for Small Business program in Buffalo, NY. Additionally, she founded the Centre for Trauma Healing and Transitional Justice at Puntland State University and served as Chancellor for the Puntland State University.

Dr. Hodan has acted as a goodwill ambassador for UNFPA and UNICEF on gender equality and maternity issues. She is an active member of the board of Directors of the Somali STEM Society (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and has provided lectures on financial literacy, financial inclusion, financial digitalization, and strategic decision-making skills.
